The term Field of View (FOV) is used to describe the observable view through the lens of a camera.

Typically, this number is indicated in terms of degrees. Why do we care about our field of vision? The larger your field of vision will be, the more information your camera will process and convert into a photo.

Fisheye effect

As the FOV increases the image will become distoreded and take on the fisheye effect to accomodate the large range of view.

Know before you go

Different drone cameras offer varying degrees of FOV, for this reason it is important in knowing what you will use your drone camera for before buying. If you are looking to simply take photos of random objects, then FOV may not factor as much into your drone purchasing decision.

However, if you are looking to gather sweeping images of a landscape, then you want a camera that has the capability of using a lens with a large FOV.
